A Meal Prep Chef’s Top 10 Uses for a Stasher Bag

If you’ve been following me for a while, then you know I’m obsessed and constantly talking about Stasher Bags! These amazing reusable silicone bags come in all sizes and they even make bowls!

My collection brings me so much joy and helps me stay super organized. I have so many, I lost track of how many I actually have! I use them for absolutely anything and everything in the kitchen and beyond. In fact, I haven’t purchased single use plastic baggies in over 4 years! Not only are they sustainable, they are also dishwasher safe, microwave and oven-safe, and freezer-friendly.

While Stasher Bags are typically used for food storage, there are plenty of other ways to utilize them in your kitchen, around the house, or even on-the-go. Today, I’m sharing my top 10 uses for a Stasher Bag, but first, I’m sharing a quick list of my favorite types of Stasher bags!

My favorite Stasher products:

  • Stand-up bag - the perfect size for meal prep

  • Pocket bag - great for smaller items you want to carry on-the-go

  • Sandwich bag - a lifesaver for keeping your fridge and freezer organized

  • Half Gallon bag - perfect for larger items and storing frozen food for another time

  • Bowl - a salad’s best friend

If you’re not sure what size you want, they have bundles so you can try out a few different options!

Now, let’s review my favorite ways to use my beloved Stasher Bags!

For food storage and kitchen organization:

1️⃣ Keeping food fresh in your fridge

This is probably the most common use of Stasher Bags! I love using the bags for rice and cooked grains, avocado halves, and raw veggies that I’ve prepped for the week. They can even help your greens stay fresh longer! After washing your kale or spinach, store them in one of the bags with a paper towel. I also love using the snack-size Stashers for splitting up my proteins so that I stretch my groceries and save money! Stasher Bags are truly a cook’s best friend and a great way to keep your fridge (and freezer) organized.

2️⃣ Storing foods in the freezer

Since Stasher products are freezer-friendly, they are perfect for organizing your freezer and storing your frozen foods. I personally love storing frozen fruit in them or creating smoothie packs for an easy breakfast option on those mornings when I’m in a rush! Just throw in your blender with some milk and voilà! They’re also great for storing soups and sauces because you can freeze flat, saving you lots of freezer space, hello NYC apartment freezers! If you want to portion out your big pot of soup, you can use Stasher Bags in tandem with another favorite product of mine, Souper Cubes. They’re basically a silicone ice cube tray, but for soups (and other foods too)! Take it one step further and organize your Stashers with these removable freezer labels!

A peak into my tiny freezer…everything is frozen in my Stasher Bags in rainbow order, of course!

3️⃣ Portioning foods during or after meal prep

Stasher Bags come in various sizes, making them perfect for portioning your foods as you meal prep. As I already mentioned, I love using the snack-size Stashers for breaking up my proteins into portions before I freeze them. You can also use Stashers for portioning your veggies and even your cooked grains. I also love to use them to prep a serving of my favorite freezer-friendly meals. Once I’m ready to eat, all I need to do is pop the bag in the microwave, reheat, and enjoy my meal! Super quick and easy!

4️⃣ Packing a lunch or on-the-go snack

Just like Ziploc bags (but even better), you can use Stasher bags of all sizes to prep your lunch for a busy work day. They’re also perfect for prepping snacks for kids because they love the colors AND you can write or drawer pictures on them! Think about all the money you’ll save never having to throw away another plastic baggie! You can even use Stasher bags to store breast milk, prepare baby food by steaming and mashing veggies right in the bag, or to carry baby wipes.

5️⃣ Marinate your favorite protein

Marinating your favorite proteins has never been simpler (or cleaner)! Gone are the days of leaky plastic bags creating a giant mess in your fridge. You can prepare your marinade right in your Stasher Bag and then all that’s left to do is add your fish or meat to seal in the flavor. For travel and on-the-go organization:

6️⃣ Storing toiletries (like soap) when traveling

Place your current soap bar in a snack bag to transport for vacation! No need to waste a whole new bar! If you use want to carry travel-size shampoo & conditioner, you can store those in a Stasher to prevent it from leaking all over your clothes or place in your carry-on and make it through TSA without a problem. I also like to store all my makeup and brushes in a half gallon Stasher.

7️⃣ Storing wet items

I personally love to keep a Stasher bag in my purse when it’s raining! I put my wet umbrella in the bag so that I can keep everything else dry and carry on with my day. They’re also a great addition to your beach bag! Change into some dry clothes and throw your wet suit in a Stasher until you get home. Bring another Stasher with you to keep your phone dry while you enjoy the sun and the sand. And if you’re traveling with kids, they’re perfect to use as a wet bag for soiled clothes or diapers.

8️⃣ Packing chargers

Between your phone, computer, tablet, headphones, your chargers are bound to get lost in the shuffle! Pack all of your chargers into one Stasher when traveling so they don’t go missing. You can even store it in your carry-on for easy access so that you don’t end up with a dead device mid-flight. And since it’s waterproof, the Stasher will keep your electronics safe from any spills during turbulence or leaks in your bag. Pick a brightly colored Stasher to ensure it stands out amongst all of the things you packed for your trip!

9️⃣ Organizing your purse or bag

The Pocket bag is great for all of the miscellaneous items that tend to go missing in a purse or backpack! It’s perfect for loose candy, chocolates, or snacks. You can also bring your skincare and makeup essentials on the go in a Stasher. Some other items you can store in your Pocket bag include bobby pins or elastic bands, loose change, pads or tampons, lotion, sunscreen, etc. Organize your items into categories and pick a different colored Stasher for each one so you can easily find your personal items!

🔟 Carrying your pills

If you have vitamins, supplements, or prescriptions that you need to carry with you at all times or pack for a long trip, the Stasher line has you covered! The Quart sized bag is perfect for carrying pill bottles. If you don’t need to bring multiple bottles, you want to save on space, or you don’t want to mix different pills in one bag, opt for the Snack or Pocket bag. Also, you can use Chalkboard markers or dry erase to label the matte side of the bag so that you know exactly what’s inside (see below).
